After a lot of vote counting we can finally announce that this year the Cardiff Twestival will be supporting.... Cardiff Foodbank!

Cardiff Foodbank is a part of the of The Trussell Trust’s network of over 90 charity foodbanks, including a growing number in Wales. Cardiff Foodbank has fed over 1200 people, including 500 children, since opening up their doors in May 2010. The foodbank helps both individuals and families who have suffered a crisis resulting in the inability to purchase food for themselves or their families. The crisis is caused by a sudden change in personal circumstances. All food is donated by the public and sorted by volunteers. Frontline care professionals such as doctors and social workers identify people in crisis and issue a food voucher. Clients receive three to five days of nutritionally balanced, non-perishable food in exchange for their food voucher and also signpost clients to other helpful services.
Ian Purcell, co-founder of Cardiff Foodbank told us a little bit about where the money raised by this years Twestival will go and how they will help the foodbank to continue to support the people of Cardiff. "The numbers being fed are increasing month by month but for this to be sustained we need to find £800 per month (including £400 per month for the warehouse; £150 - £200 per month for a van to collect and deliver all donations of food; £200 per month for general office, insurance costs and other fees). Your donations will enable Cardiff Foodbank to feed those in a short term crises such as debt, redundancy and domestic violence, resulting in reduced crime, less homelessness and preventing family breakdown. Thanks for your support as together we fight hidden hunger and restore hope" Co-founder Karen Purcell went on to say of their involvement with Cardiff Twestival: "As co-founder of the Cardiff Foodbank, I am delighted that we are to be recipients of the fundraising endeavours of Cardiff Twestival 2011. We may no longer always know who lives next door, nor their struggles, as we used to but the Twestival is an exciting C21st way of being a good neighbour by helping Cardiff Foodbank to fight hidden hunger and restore hope." We already have a Justgiving page set up if you'd like to donate now, and keep your eyes peeled for our super mega raffle details which will be released soon. http://www.justgiving.com/Twestival-Cardiff Thanks for the support Twestival Cardiff Team
Whilst we get our Twestival team together (we're still looking so get on touch if you want to help put) we're also looking to start collecting ideas for who you, the people of Cardiff, would like to see benefit from our fundraising this year.
March's Twestival focuses once more on a local charity, perviously we have supported Cardiff Mind in this category.
Please think carefully about who you'd like to nominate by following the guidelines below.
The nominated charity HAS to: As online voting systems can be rigged and unfair we will be counting the number of nominations from individuals to select the chosen charity. And of course, just like last year, all 100% of the profits will go to the charity. The deadline for nominations is Friday 4th February so not long to get your suggestions in, you can leave them as a comment below, tweet them through to @CFTwestival or drop us an email at CFTwestival@gmail.com
Hello there, you're looking lovely today, have you done something different with your hair? Well whatever it is, we're very glad you popped over to have a look at our brand spanking new, super fancy Cardiff Twestival 2011 homepage.
Over the last two years we've raised a lot of money for both local (Cardiff Mind) and International (Concern Worldwide, Water Aid) charities, so we'd also like to take this opportunity to say a HUGE thank you for all the support you've shown us so far, we couldn't have done it without you lovely lot.
For the March 2011 Twestival we will be supporting a local charity again, and we NEED your suggestions. Who would you, the people of Cardiff, like to see helped with the money we raise in March? It doesn't matter how big or small the charity may be, all suggestions will be considered and a public vote will decide.
The only way that Twestival can happen is through the support and hard work of volunteers and this year is no different. We are now on the look our for volunteers to help before, during and after the event itself. If you think this is something you could help out with please don't hesitate to holla at us.
And if you're a business or an individual who can offer support via sponsorship, publicity, advertising, raffle prizes, printing, donations or literally anything else you can think of we'd love to hear from you too.
Please leave you suggestions, offers of help or anything else you'd like to say in the comment box below or contact us via one of our social media outputs. If that's all a bit too techy for you, you can always email us on: cftwestival@gmail.com
Thanks for all your continued support and hopefully we can make this Twestival the best one yet.
Love and charity kisses,
The Cardiff Twestival Team. :)
